SUBJECT: PHONE SOLICITATION SCAM |
On Thursday, October 12, the Haleyville Police Department received information that two local residents had been contacted by phone and the caller indicated or represented himself as soliciting funds/donations for the Haleyville Fire Department. According to the CALLER I. D. on one of the calls it showed to be a Decatur, Alabama, phone number.
According the Fire Chief Phillip Weaver, the Haleyville Fire Department is not, nor have they ever solicited funds by phone. Area residents need to be aware that this solicitation is scam and do not need to fall for it. It is not necessary for anyone who has received one of these calls to notify the police department. |
